The Chrism Mass is intended to be a gathering of the entire diocese, bishop, priests, religious and lay faithful. It is an occasion during which the bishop blesses the holy oils which will be used in sacraments in the year ahead, and when the priests renew their promises to serve God and his people.
The three oils that are blessed at the Chrism Mass: that of the sick, that of chrism, and that of catechumens are then used, in the year ahead, wherever there is a sacramental anointing, such as the anointing of the sick, the anointing of those about to be baptised, and the anointing of priests in ordination and those to be confirmed.
Why not join Bishop Farrell and the people of our Diocese in this celebration at the Mass of Chrism on Wednesday, 28th March 2018 at 7.00 p.m. in St Mary’s Cathedral.
All are welcome.
