Fr Dan Cavanagh appointed Vicar General of Ossory

Fr Dan Cavanagh

Following consulation with the priests of the Diocese, Bishop Farrell has appointed Fr Dan Cavanagh, PP Rosbercon as Vicar General of Ossory. 

Fr Dan was born in Galmoy in North Kilkenny in November 1949 and he attended National School in Crosspatrick and Galmoy and received his Secondary Education as a boarder in St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny from 1962-1967. He did his seminary training in Maynooth and was ordained in Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny by Bishop Peter Birch in June 1974. Following ordination Fr Dan undertook further studies in Marriage Guidance in Australia, An area which Fr Dan has ministered for over twenty years both in Kilkenny and in Dublin with the National Office of Accord.

Fr Dan has served as Curate in St Canice’s, St Mary’s Cathedral and Ballycallan parishes before being appointed as Parish Priest of Glenmore.  Since June 2005 Fr Dan has served as Parish Priest of Rosbercon. 

Along with his pastoral responsibilities Fr Dan was also Spiritual Director to the seminary at St Kieran’s College, and in 2010 gave the Annual Priests’ Retreat to the priests of Ardagh and Clonmacnois and a number of other Priests’ Retreats.  We wish Fr Dan well as he begins his work as Vicar General of Ossory.
