The Chrism Mass is a gathering of the entire diocese – Bishop, priests, religious and lay faithful. It is an occasion during which the Bishop blesses the Holy Oils which will be used in Sacraments in our parishes in the year ahead. It is also the occasion when the priests renew their promises to serve God and his people and when we celebrate the many and varied ministries of all in our Diocese who bring life to our faith.
The three Oils that are blessed at the Chrism Mass: that of the Sick, that of Chrism, and that of Catechumens are then used, in the year ahead, wherever there is a sacramental anointing, such as the Anointing of the Sick, the Anointing of those about to be Baptised, and the Anointing of priests in Ordination and those to be Confirmed.
Bishop Farrell has invited all who serve in our parishes to come along to this celebration – Readers, Ministers of the Eucharist, Sacristans, Choirs and all those who serve on various committees such as Finance Groups or Parish Pastoral Council and anyone who contributes to the life of our parishes.
Why not join Bishop Farrell and the people of our Diocese in this diocesan celebration at the Mass of Chrism on Wednesday, 17th April 2019 at 7.30 p.m. in St Mary’s Cathedral. Refreshments will served afterward for all in attendance in the Chapter House.
All are most welcome to this wonderful diocesan celebration.
