Statement of Bishop Dermot Farrell on the sale of some Diocesan property
The Diocese of Ossory is pleased to confirm the sale of lands, on Sion Road in Kilkenny. These lands were once home to a diocesan retreat centre, the diocesan offices and the Bishop’s house. In 2011 the then Bishop of Ossory moved into the city to be more accessible to the people he served. Then after his appointment to the Diocese, Bishop Dermot Farrell, in consultation with the College of Consulters and the Diocesan Finance Committee as is normal in matters of importance in the Diocese, began the procedure to sell these lands. This sale of c 14 acres, following open competition, at market value affords the Diocese an opportunity to reduce its debts.
