Training our Diocese

Role of the Safeguarding Trainers

  • To promote child safeguarding by working with the safeguarding committee to identify training needs;
  • Delivering full-day and information-session safeguarding training to those identified by the safeguarding committee in the Church body;
  • Keeping records of all of those who have been trained;
  • Contributing to upholding the seven standards in practice and behaviour.

Ena Kennedy is an accredited trainer for the Diocese of Ossory.  She is assisted by accredited trainers from the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin and the Diocese of Waterford & Lismore.

Training is provided for those who work with children and young people in our Diocese. This includes clergy, parish staff, and volunteers. The training provided is consistent with National Standards as determined by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland Training Plan for 2016-2018

Training to encompass the Church’s revised Safeguarding Standards has been provided for all Diocesan Clergy and Parish Safeguarding Representatives. Information sessions to renew and update parish staff and volunteers will be carried out in the autumn of 2018
