St Mary’s Cathedral in Kilkenny to consecrate new Altar

On Sunday 27th March at 5.30pm we will gather in St Mary’s Cathedral to consecrate the Altar and bless the new Ambo which have been placed in the sanctuary. For some months now work has been ongoing to completing the improvements, commenced by Archbishop Dermot, on the sanctuary area of St Mary’s Cathedral. The new Altar and Ambo have been installed and the tiling and associated works are now complete. The Architect Paul O’Daly, who planned and guided this project, has done so wonderfully with a theology so sensitive to context and our liturgical space. In carving the Combe Brune stone, which was sourced in France, Tom Glendon masterfully reflects the simplicity of the columns that frame the Cathedral sanctuary from the day it was first built – ensuring that the new speaks harmoniously with the old.

Why not join us for this special celebration when Bishop Denis Nulty, Apostolic Administrator of Ossory will lead us in prayer.
